Edmond Rotary Club involved in Echocardiograph Equipment to be used in a Columbian hospital.
An International Project funded by Rotary Club of Edmond, other Rotary Clubs in the Oklahoma City and Edmond area is nearly ready to provide heart disease testing and screening in Columbia, South America. In 2012, the Rotary groups helped purchase echocardiograph equipment to be used in a Columbian hospital.
“Together all Rotary participants raised $44,000 to purchase mobile echocardiograph equipment that was donated to a medical center in Bogota, Colombia, with the intent of screening disadvantaged youth and the elderly...
Rotary International requires members of Rotary Clubs who sponsor international projects to send representatives to engage in the projects. Oklahoma District 5750, which comprises central Oklahoma, is sending representation to Colombia in December to participate in the screening process and ensure the project is running according to the funding agreement.
Several Rotarians who are members of Rotary District 4281 in Colombia, South America, contributed to the project. Contributing Rotary Clubs in Oklahoma include Boulevard Rotary in Edmond, Summit Rotary in Edmond, Rotary Club of Edmond, North Oklahoma City Rotary, West Oklahoma City Rotary and Guthrie Rotary. Additional funding was received from The Rotary District 5750 Foundation, and three Rotary clubs in Stillwater.
This technology also can be used as a mobile device. Many of the poverty-stricken children and elderly would otherwise never have a chance to have critical heart-related problems diagnosed and treated.
“We are currently working with this same Colombia Rotary District to fund a microcredit project to help underprivileged women, who are head of households, start small businesses to get a hand up and not a handout. “This $35,000 project is current raising money to complete funding.”
